Comments: My wife and I first bought the B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch for our stock trailer. It's very easy to use and turns over leaving a flat bed in out pickup when we don't need to tow. About 18 months ago, we purchased a 5th wheel RV and the B&W Companion Hitch. The Companion Hitch is also easily removable from the truck bed, which allows us to tow the stock trailer or have a flat bed for loading plywood. The Companion Hitch operates easily and it also makes it easy to hitch up the 5th wheel -- obviously the hitch is well-engineered with high-quality materials.

Unfortunately, after our last camping trip, I couldn't remove a bolt that had to be removed to disassemble the hitch. When I tried to apply extra force, the bolt broke. I was able to remove the hitch, but it couldn't be remounted without new components.

I visited the B&W website and filled out a form describing the problem and asking about replacement parts. The next day, I had a response from Gregg at B&W Hitches telling me that B&W would send me the replacement parts at no charge if I faxed him a copy of the purchase receipt for the hitch. The next day I faxed the purchase receipt and within a few days, I had my replacement parts.

I was impressed with B&W Hitches for several reasons. First, there was no hassle about proving how the hitch was damaged -- it broke and they were going to fix it at no charge to me. Second, they acted quickly -- our upcoming trip can go as planned because I had the part within a few days.

There are so many companies these days that don't stand behind their products. If you have a problem during the warranty, you can expect to fight with the manufacturer. Not so with B&W Hitches. If it fails during the warranty period, which is a generous two years, they'll fix it without a fuss. B&W Hitches has earned my very strongest recommendation.

Comments: My wife & I spent last week in England. I had discovered this restaurant in October 2008 on a prior trip to the UK. We enjoyed the food so much that we dined at the restaurant 3 of the 4 nights in London (March 9, 10, & 12, 2009). If you are ever in the vicinity of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Natural History Museum, or Royal Albert Hall in London, check out the Thai Square. The food is wonderful!

Comments: I've purchased three loads of 60-80 bales from Goudeau Farms for my three horses and I've always been impressed with the quality of the hay I've received. The hay has been baled at the right time, which means I've never had any issues with moldy hay. My horses like the hay and it's kept the weight on them through a severe drought. My trailer has always been loaded very quickly and the folks there always help me strap down the load before I depart for home. Goudeau Farms is a great source for horse hay, and I'm lucky that my barn is less than 10 miles from the Farm.

Comments: Our roof had been built with a gutter section inset in the lower portion of the roof over the front door. It didn't work well and caused damage when heavy rains caused the gutter to overflow. Precision Roofing removed the old gutter section and repaired the roof, installing new shingles that were a close match to the installed roof. They did the work quickly for a very reasonable price and cleaned up all the construction debris before they left. A very professional outfit to deal with and highly recommended!

Comments: I had visited this store several times over the years when it was Dominion Saddlery. However, the level of customer service was uneven and the store was not well stocked. I visited again recently after the changeover to Dover Saddlery and was pleasantly surprised. I needed a rechargeable clipper that was powerful enough to do a body clip, but was easy to handle and not too expensive. The sales rep was very familiar with the extensive selection and had actually used several of the clippers on her horses. The store was much better stocked than it had ever been before, and there were more staff people (and more customers) than I ever remember. Dover Saddlery, the catalog, is well known for quality equipment -- they've kept that quality in launching their Charlottesville store and upgraded the level of customer service too. I'll be back!

Comments: I've done business with the parts department, service department and sales. I bought a B&W 5th wheel hitch there and got a good price on it. The service department fixed our generator and found that a mouse had nested in the wiring and caused a short. It was an inexpensive repair and much cheaper than replacing the generator. Finally, PPL sold our RV and did a great job. They spent a lot of time going over the process with us and they kept us informed of interest from buyers. It sold for more than we thought it would and the entire process was hassle-free. Dealing with PPL was much better than trying to sell it ourselves and they were completely honest with us throughout the process. I'd buy and sell through them again and I've always been completely satisfied with parts and service too.

Comments: Eddie Drabek trimmed my three horses last weekend and I was very impressed with the results. He found an infection in the cleft of the frog in one horse and recommended a low cost treatment, which I'm following now. Another horse has two front feet with different hoof sizes and angles and he is moving much more comfortably since the trim. The third horse has great hooves, but has poor manners with a farrier. Eddie had the patience and firmness to get the job done with this horse without losing his temper. We're working to improve this horse's manners for Eddie's next visit. I'd been trimming my horses myself for the last 13 years, and Eddie Drabek does a much better job than I ever have.

Comments: My wife,2 daughters, and son-in-law have been going to the Thai Cottage II for at least the past 5 years. It is an easy place for us to meet them between Houston and Wharton. Comments: After a bad experience buying a quarter horse at an auction, a friend recommended that I look at the horses available at some of the old-time ranches with legendary ranch horse programs. He recommended the Haythorn Ranch as one of those to take a look at. I checked the Haythorn website and found several likely geldings listed and then I called for more information. Loriann, at the Haythorn, listened to my description of the horse I was looking for and then suggested that I come up to Nebraska to take a look at a 10 year old gelding they had for sale. It was easier, and less expensive than I thought to get there with a flight from Houston to Denver on Southwest and then a 3-4 hour drive to Ogallala, NE. I was at the ranch in the morning, talked to Loriann about the gelding, watched her ride him, rode him myself around the ring, and then she opened the gate and let me take him out for a ride across the ranch. We went through a herd of yearling horse, passed herds of cattle, rode by irrigation equipment, trotted and loped and the gelding did great. I decided to buy him and paid a fair price that was representative of what I had been seeing online for a horse of his experience and bloodlines. After the ride, I met Craig Haythorn and some of his crew for lunch before heading back to Denver.

I've got the gelding back in Texas now, and he is as good here as he was in Nebraska. He's well-trained, has lots of cow, is gentle, and has the best feet I've seen on a horse in a long time. My friend's advice was right on -- if you want a great ranch horse that's been raised and trained right, you'll do well to deal with a ranch that has a reputation for quality and fair dealing going back to the 1880s. The Haythorn is one such ranch, and it's the first place I'll look next time I'm in the market.

Comments: We visit Greek Brothers frequently as one of the best restaurants in this area of SE Texas. The Shrimp Cozumel is wonderful although it is a meal and a half for many people. My sister-in-law always goes for the Grilled Tuna (rare) and she loves it. The restaurant and bar also have lots of local atmosphere and the staff is very professional. If you're passing through the area, do yourself a favor and get off the highway for an hour or two for a great meal at Greek Brothers.

Comments: I visit Wharton Feed at least once a week to purchase horse feed and farm supplies. It is always an enjoyable experience to stop by and Timmy's prices are very reasonable. I needed some special low starch feed for my mare with Cushings disease, and Wharton Feed was able to order the feed for me. They also charged me significantly less than folks in other areas of the Country were paying for the same Purina product. Comments: I ordered a Model #100 Newer Spreader for our 3-horse barn and I'm very happy with it. Assembly is required, but the company provides a well illustrated assembly manual so it didn't take long and was not difficult for one person to accomplish. The parts are all very high quality and the pieces all fit together well. I've used it now for about a month and it performs exactly as advertised. It's easy to maneuver with one-hand and I can position it in front of each stall that I'm cleaning. I got the optional trailer hitch and agitator which also work great. It spreads manure, wood chips and even old hay. This is a great piece of equipment for folks with just a few horses.

Comments: I took my 2005 Exiss Event stock trailer in to Southwestern Conversions to make the dressing room a little more comfortable for those overnight stays on the road. I had previously installed an air conditioner and a plywood floor, but was using an air mattress in the gooseneck for sleeping. It was barely tolerable. However in this limited space, Southwestern Conversions managed to accomplish an almost miraculous transformation of my trailer to make it very comfortable for overnight accommodations on the road. They insulated the compartment and added wall coverings, a shower, windows, new lights, a water heater, a water tank, and storage closets, and it was all done with a Texas theme. The craftsmanship was first-rate and the work was done at a very reasonable price. In a tour of the facility, I saw some of the larger trailers they've done, and they are much nicer than any production living quarters installation I've ever seen. Plus Southwestern Conversions manufactures its own line of trailers, which you can outfit to your particular requirements. The company is owned by a horseman who has spent a lot of time on the road hauling so he knows what works and what doesn't. If you want to update or install a living quarters in your existing trailer or your in the market for a new trailer with living quarters, you owe it to yourself to contact Southwestern Conversions. You'll be very satisfied with their work.

Comments: My wife and I saw Sam Choy's on our way to Hilo Hattie's store on Nimitz Highway during our recent vacation in Honolulu. I was researching Hawaiian cookbooks on Amazon later that day and saw that Sam Choy had one of the most highly rated ones. So we decided to visit the restaurant, and we're glad we did. Both of us had versions of the mahi mahi sauteed with shitake mushroom cream sauce and fried rice. The fish and sauce were wonderful and the fried rice was the best I've ever had. Our server, Sinh, was attentive and professional. I also tried one of Sam Choy's brews -- the Hefeweizen -- and it was great. We're going to buy Sam Choy's book with the hope that we can recreate some of these dishes when we get home.

Comments: After over a month of inaction from a local well driller, a friend told me about Mesecke Water Well Drilling in nearby Richmond, TX. I called Mr. Mesecke on a Wednesday and he offered to start drilling a well the following Monday. He is as good as his word. He visited the site on Sunday afternoon and discussed the drilling process with me. On Monday the rig appeared on my land and by Friday the project was complete with a great well producing lots of good water. These drillers are highly professional, they know what they're doing, and they keep their promises. Comments: K&P Manufacturing built the foundations for a fairly large storage building and a barn and erected the storage building. Mark Krenek, the owner, did a very professional job in building the forms and pouring the foundations and I'm sure those foundations will last for many years. He and his crew also did a great job in building our Mueller storage building. It was up very quickly and Mark's high standards of workmanship were evident during the process. I recommend K&P Manufacturing very strongly.
