Comments: We've eaten at Hinze's a number of times and love the food there. For lunch, the chopped barbeque beef sandwich is great along with some onion rings. For dinner, we usually get the sliced beef brisket with some of their great home made sides like English pea salad, black-eyed pea salad, or bacon-onion potatoes. I've heard that the deserts are also great, but we've never been able to eat any after the lunches and dinners. If you want to enjoy some of the very best barbequed beef in Texas, take time to stop at Hinze's.

Comments: Four of us stopped here for a late lunch after visiting the LCRA park at Matagorda. We had stopped at a local place to buy shrimp and asked them for a recommendation for a good place to have some seafood -- and they were right in recommending River Bend Tavern. We had shrimp Po-Boys and oysters along with fries and onion rings. I'm a big fan of a good shrimp Po-Boy and these were great. Lots of tender, flavorful shrimp in a good roll, and our friends said the oysters were wonderful too. Service was good and the prices were very reasonable. I'm looking forward to our next trip to Matagorda, and the River Bend Tavern will definitely be on the agenda.

Comments: I stopped at Rick & Carolyn's Burgers & Fries in late September '07 and ordered a cheeseburger and an order of fries to go. Service was extraordinary, especially for a fast food restaurant. A bunch of bright, friendly young people were taking orders and preparing the food under the watchful eye of an older gentleman I took to be Rick. My burger and fries were wonderful -- as good or better than any I've made at home. If you're in Abilene, TX, and you're hungry for a great burger, you should come here.
